After a three-year hiatus, the Pakistan Railways Police (PRP) has resumed its recruitment drive for 2026, with the Assistant Sub-Inspector (ASI) position as the most sought-after vacancy. This comes at a time when rail-linked security has gained national importance, especially following the March 2026 Jaffar Express incident and a parliamentary audit highlighting staff shortages.
The Ministry of Railways has approved 500 new officer positions, with the ASI cadre receiving the largest share.
What is the Role of an ASI in PRP?
An Assistant Sub-Inspector (ASI) is the first investigative rank in the police hierarchy. Key responsibilities include:
- Supervising a small team of constables
- Registering First Information Reports (FIRs)
- Ensuring train escorts on sensitive routes
- Conducting preliminary investigations before escalation to a Sub-Inspector (SI)
